Hi everyone,
Spring is a shorter season for WVC and time is passing quickly so I thought it might be helpful to include some important information as we move toward our Spring Concert.
Important Dates Coming Up:
Technical Rehearsal – Monday, April 27th at HTLC (scarves, folders, concert tix) from 7-10PM
Technical Rehearsal – Thursday, April 30th at United Church of Chapel Hill from 7-10PM
Spring Concert – Saturday, May 2nd at United Church of Chapel Hill 1:30PM Call, 3PM Concert
Spring Banquet/Listening Party – Monday, May 11th at The FARM from 6:30-9:30PM
Nominations for the Board: The nominating committee presents the following slate for Next year’s WVC Board to be voted on by WVC members on Monday, April 20th at rehearsal:
President – Janet Huebner
Vice President – Open
Membership – Marsha Ferguson
Public Relations – Open
Inclusion and Outreach Co- Chairs: Rachel Bowman-Abdi and Betty Schumacher
Note that we were unable to find candidates for the Vice President and Public Relations positions and a Fund Development Chair will also need to be appointed.
Community Outreach Fund: Last week, the membership voted to support NC Flight Crew, however, we have learned that they are not currently running the program due to lack of funds and our donations would not be enough to get it back up and running. So, the I&O committee recommended we support the runner-up, The Learning Trail and the Board voted to approve this change.
· The Learning Trail. Located in a mobile home community on Nature Trail adjacent to Governor’s Village, The Learning Trail is a not-for-profit organization that provides tutoring in reading and math, along with enrichment activities, to pre-K through 8th grade children who live in the park. Primarily Hispanic, the students benefit from additional support in learning to read, write, and speak English. They begin to hone their math skills as early as pre-school. And throughout their time at The Learning Trail, these children also learn social and cultural skills that help prepare them for the world outside of the Nature Trail. Each child has their own tutor. The Learning Trail prepares these children to “take flight” in their current school and beyond.
Spring Retreat –Saturday, April 11 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the United Church of Chapel Hill 1321 M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill, followed by a mini-concert at the Seymour Center, located at 2551 Homestead Road, from 3-4 pm. We will have coffee and light breakfast from 9-9:30 AM before the retreat starts at 9:30 and a potluck lunch around noon. Please use the link here to sign up to bring something to share. We will not be wearing concert dress for the mini-concert.
Concert Dress: If you are new to WVC or if you need a reminder, concert dress for our performances is described on p7 of the chorus handbook (see below). If you have any questions, please let me know.
Concert dress is all black, from collar to toe: Black tops (3/4 length sleeves or longer) – no beads, sequins, netting, lace, velvet, etc. Black floor-length dress pants or skirts (no patterns, velvet, ruffles, or tiers). Black opaque stockings/tights/socks and black closed-toe shoes. No necklaces, dangling earrings (post earrings only), or flamboyant accessories. No perfume or other scents. We also wear solid-colored ‘WVC blue’ scarves during our concerts. Scarves are to be worn around your neck, loose or tied however you choose. WVC will provide the scarves for a suggested donation of $12.
