Hi everyone,
Welcome back to our Spring Semester! I am delighted to announce that auditions were a tremendous success resulting in our adding 4 new singers to our community:
Sarah Cabell (S2) – Buddy: Talia Brenner
Phoebe Bull (A1) – Buddy: Ann Harrison
Paige Freeman (A2) – Buddy: Caryl Price
Sandra Lopez (A2) – Buddy: Susanna Lambert
Welcome to WVC! I have attached the ‘Splits’ for this semester which indicates your assigned parts and circles.
Spring Schedule: Please see the attached schedule and mark your calendars. If you need to miss a rehearsal, please let Laura, your section leader, and your membership liaison know. Due to the short timeline, only three absences are allowed during the Spring Season.
Practice Files: Practice files for our Spring repertoire are available on our website, along with links to YouTube videos. Thank you, Karla!!! If you find any errors or broken links, please let Karla know (kmkbyrnes@gmail.com).
Winter Concert Rescheduled: Our Winter concert has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 28th at First Presbyterian Church in Durham at 3 PM. We have 47 WVC available to sing that day, our guest instrumentalists, our recording engineer, and are still waiting to hear back from Sister’s Voices with the number of singers available to join us. Many thanks to Laura, Deb, Kinley and Karla for working to make this happen. More information will be coming, but you can share the rescheduled date with family and friends. If you are unable to make the rescheduled date, we will miss you. If you would like to return your music, Marsha will have a box for you to deposit the music in bulk (no need to sort by piece). More information will be coming with regard to concert preparation.
Road Closure: Please be aware that on Friday, February 13, OWASA crews will begin setting up detour signs for a full road closure of W. Rosemary Street from E. Main Street to Church Street. This road closure is expected to begin on Monday, February 16, and last for about two to three months.
Inclusion and Outreach: Upcoming Event in Durham. You may be interested in attending the performance of Drum Tao on February 12th at 7PM at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. Drum Tao is a world-renowned Japanese percussion ensemble founded in 1993, famed for combining traditional Wadaiko drumming with modern, high-energy, and athletic choreography. Their shows feature immense, thunderous drums, including 3-ton Odaiko drums, accompanied by bamboo flutes, harps, and marimbas in vibrant, theatrical performances. Tickets are available here. If you plan to go, please let Betty Schumacher (A2) bschumer4@gmail.com know and she can connect you with other singers attending. Please check out the WVC DEIA webpage for other resources that may be of interest.
Volunteer Opportunity: We are looking for someone with experience with any of these:
- Admin for Google Suite for Business or for Non-profits
- Admin for Salesforce
- Non-profit accounting software that uses fund-based accounting, allows a custom chart of accounts, and handles a donor/potential donor database
If so, Karla has some questions. See her at rehearsal or email her at treasurer@womensvoiceschorus.org or kmkbyrnes@gmail.com.
Birthdays: Due to all the chaos that was January, we did not have an opportunity to celebrate birthdays last month. Please join me in celebrating our sisters born in January: Brystana Kaufman (1/3), Debbie Russell (1/7), Doris Sigl (1/10), Carol Mansfield (1/12), Diane Kirkman (1/13), Magen Hast (1/20), Kate DeAlmeida (1/24), Sandra Lopez (1/28), and Deb Gauldin (1/30)
Zoom: If you need to attend rehearsal via Zoom, please remember to notify Laura, your section leader and membership liaison. You can join the Zoom Rehearsals here. Meeting ID: 858 3293 4624; Password: 121074.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night
