Hello,

I hope everyone enjoyed the pretty snow this afternoon (if it snowed where you live!).
I thoroughly enjoyed our music-making at Carolina Meadows and hope that you did, too.
Our new scarves looked exceptionally pretty – thanks again to our scarf creators (Susan, Diane, and Darcy).
After our performance, we went through notes and questions regarding all of our music so I don’t have a lot of feedback beyond what was already given except to encourage everyone to sing through your music this week giving intonation and tempos your attention. The intonation overall was solid (yay!) and much improved over our rehearsal at the beginning of January (sing with optimal posture and energized breath!). Tempos on most pieces were acceptable, but we can improve ensemble cohesiveness with careful watching (practice looking up from your music!) and singing the vowel on the beat (consonants ahead of the beat).

Please take time to read through the texts and practice clear and concise consonants.
Please review expressive elements such as articulation markings and dynamics. Every phrase has a goal point…think about whether you are moving toward that goal or away from that goal to give the phrase shape.
We will have much to accomplish at our tech rehearsal on 1/22 (7-10pm) at First Presbyterian Church in Durham.
Our priorities will be:
Rehearse with our guest musicians
Rehearse our logistics (thanks in advance, Kinley)
Provide time for Sisters’ Voices and WVC Chamber Choir to rehearse their pieces)
I anticipate this rehearsal order:
WVC
Hands Upon the Plow (Mary Huntimer – saxophone)
WVC & SV
Richer for Her (Debbie Davis – cello)
Like a Mountain
Still I Rise (Christina Lowder – drum set)
WVC & SV Narrators
No Fairy Tale Here (Christina Lowder – djembe)
Malala (Christina Lowder – doumbek)
WVC & SV
What Happens When a Woman?
Wild Embers
The Girl With the Numbers
WVC Break
SV
Womankind
WVC & SV
Walk through concert logistics
SV departs
WVC (we may not have time to sing each piece all of the way through)
The Radium Girl
Rise Up
Be Like Jane
WVC Chamber Choir
Water Women
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday evening and working on the final finishing touches on our music.
Hope your week is a good one!
Laura
