Hello Everyone,

Another rehearsal of good fun and progress on our repertoire – thank you for your hard work, good humor, and attention to detail! We are moving forward!
Sisters Voices will join us on Saturday afternoon from 1-3pm. Since our focus will be on our collaboration with SV, we will not have a clinician at this retreat.

The following are solo/narration opportunities. Send me a voice memo of any/all for which you would like to audition by Saturday, October 25th. Play the practice file in the background on your laptop/computer and record your audition with your phone.
What Happens When a Woman? mm. 7-10 (there is also a short solo at m. 38 but you do not need to also sing that measure, just the opening solo).
No Fairy Tale Here – narration mm. 1-19 (there is also narration at the end but you do not need to include that in your audition, just the opening narration). Correction in m. 9 should read – “majority observes jealously.” There is not a set rhythm for this text, but it does need to fit the timing of the music. PLay the practice file in the background).
Malala – spoken word mm. 48-61 (be sure to speak in the rhythm indicated in the score and play the practice file in the background).
Still I Rise (solo/duet) – mm. 1-49 If you would like to audition with any improv on pages 12-15, feel free. The solo/duet can be sung down an octave or as written. The reference YouTube video in our practice files is a wonderful example of how the soloist can improvise.
Rehearsal Reflection:
No Fairy Tale Here mm. 56-68
– worked on rhythm and pitches and especially diction. Emphatic consonants will be needed throughout, but especially on this section.
The Radium Girl all
– check with your section leader for breath marks if you missed marking those in.
– page 11, mm. 80-81:
1st time everyone
2nd time minus January/February birthdays
3rd time minus March/April birthdays
4th time minus May/June birthdays
5th time minus July/August birthdays
6th time minus September/October birthdays
mm. 82-87 is sung by the singers with November/December birthdays (Review the different rhythm)
– everyone keeps stomping throughout, even after you are no longer singing.
– we will experiment with adding the “radiation tones” mm. 80-87
Hands Upon the Plow mm. 98-125
– pitches and rhythms
– as you have a chance, please review your part on this piece
Rise Up mm. 69-81
– pitches and rhythms
Malala mm. 47-61
– pitches and rhythms
– S2 compare your part in m. 21 with mm. 54 and 61
Be Like Jabe mm. 100-116
– we have a few mud puddles to clean up but we are almost at performance tempo
– accents and dynamics are coming along!
Water Women mm. 80-104
– these rhythms are so tricky – we will work through them next week.
Looking Ahead to our Retreat and next rehearsal: (The pieces that have an asterisk are ones I hope to share for our Mini-Concert on November 3. I think we can add Rise Up – we will see). Sister’s Voices won’t join us for our Mini-Concert.
