Hello Everyone,
Thank you for a lovely rehearsal last night! It is always a joy to make music with you.
In preparation for our tech week, please review your music – you know what spots are the most challenging for you!
Everyone, please especially review Tabula Rasa – please sing it with the practice files to make sure you know your part and then with the YouTube recording which has phrasing similar to what we will also perform. Our biggest challenge was the dreaded pitch drift…so please listen carefully for accurate pitch when you practice.
Please have your music in concert order for our tech rehearsals and read through the program notes if you have not already:
Link to the program on our website (thanks to everyone who had a part in this beautiful program!): https://womensvoiceschorus.org/PDFs/WVC%20Program%20My%20Soul%20Is%20Awakened%20April%202023.pdf
You will be standing for extended periods of time so please wear comfortable shoes – our rehearsal is from 7-10PM at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Durham.
305 E. Main Street
Durham, NC 27701
You do not need to wear your concert clothes to rehearsal – but if you have any questions (especially if you are new to WVC), please talk to Janet. You can even bring your intended concert outfit to rehearsal to show Janet, if you are not sure.
There should have been an empty chair for Amie T…I hope that those who were next to the empty chair can help Amie find her place on Monday. Thank you in advance! It looks like from the picture there is a chair between Christa and Anne…but I’m not positive!
This week I will listen carefully to the recording I made of our rehearsal last night and will be ready with detailed polishing work for us to accomplish on Monday.
Our instrumentalists, Julia (violin) and Tim (percussion) will join us on our Thursday rehearsal. (YAY!)
Section leaders, if you have particular areas of concern for your section, please let me know – I am sure I will hear what’s what on the rehearsal recording but I always value and appreciate your perspective and expertise.
I think that there are a few places that I can conduct more clearly, and I will work on those this week, as well!
Please be thinking about what our audience will SEE when they listen to us sing. I hope that our faces will match our music!
I am already so looking forward to Monday’s rehearsal. I think we are in the homestretch of preparations for a stellar performance. I can’t wait to share all of our music with our family, friends, and community (but am also glad that we have 2 more rehearsals!).
Hugs,
Laura
