Dear Singers,
Good evening everyone. Thanks to all for attending the Retreat yesterday. I hope you all enjoyed the programming and the sisterhood.
REMINDER: NO REHEARSAL ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 ST.
- Review of Music before the next rehearsal: The website contains a number of resources to help you learn notes and rhythms, work through pronunciations, and listen to actual performances. This preparation will allow us to have rehearsals that are more productive. Remember to let your section leaders know if there are particular challenges. Kay had mentioned that there were some apps available for slowing down MP3 files. A quick Google search led to these two apps: Amazing Slow Downer and Music Speed Changer.
- Friday, December 2nd First Fridays at the Orange County Arts Commission in Hillsborough at Eno Arts Mill from 6-9PM. As we discussed at the All-Hands Meeting, WVC was invited to participate in this community event for which we will receive a $300 donation. The program will be about 45 minutes and we will most likely sing some simple holiday tunes. About 30 singers at the retreat indicated their willingness to take part in this event. Please put this date on your calendar – more information will be provided in the coming weeks. https://artsorange.org/about/
- Tour Information: Thank you Jackie for all of your hard work to date pulling together this exciting tour of Ireland for WVC in 2024. I have attached the proposal containing all of the details known to date.
- Volunteer Opportunities Reviewed in the All-Hands Meeting and More:
Diversity Committee: WVC strives to foster a climate of purposeful inclusion. A diverse, multicultural, multiracial choral community enriches a chorus and its music. Please let any member of the Board know if you are interested in working on the Diversity Committee to share ideas about how to implement the following goals:
- Propose and implement ways to attract a more diverse audition pool
- Develop methods to foster inclusivity among the membership
- Work to maintain diversity in our musical expression (Program music from a variety of cultures)
- Seek ways to make our commitment to diversity and inclusion apparent to the public
FundRaising Committee: Anne reviewed our Fundraising Goals for the year and would love members to join her in brainstorming about various fundraising opportunities. Please let her know if you are willing to help.
Music Proofreaders Wanted: Before any of the practice files are available for our use, the files (prepared meticulously by Karla) must be proofread to check for any errors. We could use 2-3 members to proofread the music for the spring semester. Karla will send you two PDFs of a given piece, the original score and the score to be uploaded. You will compare the new file to the original, identify any discrepancies, and send Karla an email detailing the differences in a timely fashion. That is it! If you are a detail-oriented person looking for a volunteer opportunity, this may be perfect for you!
Happy Halloween!
See you all on November 7th for our next rehearsal
