Dear Singers,
This week the announcements are quite lengthy but contain a lot of important information, so please take a moment to read them in their entirety.
Mezzo Sectional: There is a mezzo sectional tomorrow night in the regular rehearsal space from 6:45-7:25 PM so if you are a mezzo, let your section leader know beforehand if you want to cover any specific areas.
Changes to COVID-19 Mitigation Protocol:
WVC will transition to a ‘mask-optional’ policy beginning October 24, 2022 given that all of the counties in Central NC have been at a low community risk status as reported by the CDC (https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/dashboard). The Board has re-evaluated the current state of things and has decided upon the following:
- If you are experiencing COVID-19/cold-like symptoms (unusual for you), you should not attend rehearsal in person but join via Zoom, if you are well enough.
- You should continue to wear a mask if that is your preference.
- If you prefer distancing from others, please feel free to sit on the periphery regardless of seating assignments.
The WVC Board will continue to monitor community risk and reserves the right to adjust our policy accordingly for the safety of our members and the greater community.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate these uncharted waters.
Fall Retreat: We are very excited about our upcoming retreat. This is not only a great opportunity to get to know your sisters in song, but we will work on skill building and cover a lot of our repertoire. The Retreat will take place on Saturday, October 29th at Chapel in the Pines located at 314 Great Ridge Pkwy, Chapel Hill (in Chatham County), NC 27516 from 9AM-3PM. Laura has arranged for us to work with Dr. Jami Rhodes, an Associate Professor from East Carolina University, who teaches voice, conducts the ECU Concert Choir, and coordinates the vocal pedagogy program. Please see her bio for more information https://www.jamirhodes.com/about.
We will enjoy an infamous Women’s Voices Chorus potluck lunch. Please use the link below, https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4EAFAB2EA2F9C07-retreat, to sign up for an item you are planning to bring so that we can make sure we have a well-rounded lunch for all. As stated in our Handbook, missing a retreat counts as two absences because two regular rehearsals’ worth of material and instruction are covered. If you are not able to attend in person, there will be a Zoom option available (counted as 1 absence instead of 2). If you cannot attend, please notify Laura, your Section Leader, and your Membership Liaison in advance. The schedule will be as follows:
9AM Arrival/social time – donuts and coffee
9:30AM start with activities
10:15-11:45 Dr. Jami Rhodes
11:45AM-12:45PM lunch – potluck
12:45-1:15PM All-Hands Meeting
1:15-2PM rehearse
2:00PM concert run through
NO REHEARSAL ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 ST
Tour Survey: Responses for the Tour Survey are closed. The results have been compiled and will be shared with the membership at the Retreat on October 29th followed by a brief Q&A.
Tiara/Toaster this week: This week’s award goes to Doris Sigl. Doris has been a member of WVC since 2005 and has been serving on the Music Committee of WVC for the last 7 years as the Music Licensing volunteer. She manages performance and streaming licensing for concerts and mechanical rights and copyrights for publication and sale of recordings each season. Doris works diligently behind the scenes to make sure we are up to date on all of the licensing requirements. Thank you, Doris!
Volunteer Opportunities: Media Contact. Shelley Turkington (S1) is the Chair of the Public Relations Committee and looking for volunteers to help contact various media groups to inform them about our upcoming concerts. This entails sending email announcements to various organizations. If you are interested in this opportunity, please see Shelley.
Zoom Link for Rehearsal: You can join the Zoom Rehearsals here. Meeting ID: 858 3293 4624; Password: 121074.
