Hello Everyone,
We accomplished a lot of really good work last night – it is a pleasure to make music with you all. I left rehearsal very happy and I hope that you did, too. Yay us!
Rehearsal Focus:
Prayer for Ukraine
Much better balance! Anytime you have a G# in your part, sing it on the high side.
Rise Up
We are ready – this piece sounded wonderful after we covered all of the remaining details.
SIng My Child
Great work on this – the tuning was really good and that was one of our remaining tasks to accomplish for this piece. Nice solo work, Wendy and Amy!
What the Heart Cannot Forget
We have a bit more work to do on this piece regarding balance but it is very close to being performance ready. Loved hearing the duet with Janet and Rachel.
How Can I Keep From Singing
This will be a perfect closing piece for our concert! We will polish up a few places in regard to articulation and will also need to fine tune dynamics in the la la sections. We also need to spend a few minutes on mm. 81-87 tightening that up.
Song of Miriam
This piece has come to life! The run through last night was wonderful. I would like for us to have a bit more dynamic contrast throughout but we are very close. The tempos are especially improved.
The Imaginary Garden
Beautiful solo, Kinley! As I said last night, this piece has been a marathon but I think we have run the 26 miles and just have the .2 to go. Our biggest challenge is our intonation, and we will continue to work on this. This piece is also very thick in texture (middle section) so we need to think about balance in a very nuanced way – we will work on it!
Looking Ahead to 4/18/22
Be prepared to work on any of our pieces, please.
In priority order:
The Imaginary Garden
Be Like the Bird
She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear
Storm Comin’
Song of Miriam
What the Heart Cannot Forget
Prayer for Ukraine
How Can I Keep from Singing?
Nothing Short of Grace
Sing My Child
Rise Up
Richer for Her
O Sister
For our concert, there are a few pieces that I would like for us to sing in sections and then many in mixed formation. Below is the concert order, and also my current thinking on what I predict for our performance:
Prayer for Ukraine – Mixed
Rise Up – Sections
Sing my Child – Sections
Be Like the Bird – Mixed (It is unison but we want both S and A on each of the canon parts)
Richer for Her – Mixed
Song of MIriam – Mixed
The Imaginary Garden – Sections
Nothing Short of Grace – Mixed
Storm Comin’ – Mixed
O Sister – Mixed
She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear (Not sure about this one – would like to try it both ways)
What the Heart Cannot Forget – Mixed
How Can I Keep From Singing – Mixed
For our mixed formation, if you would like to sing next to someone singing your part, that will be fine. We will work it out.
Hope everyone has a beautiful week. I sure am looking forward to our remaining rehearsals and upcoming concert.
Cheers!
Laura
