Hello Everyone,
I want you to know how much I appreciate our wonderful board members in the way in which everyone worked together, listening thoughtfully to one another, as we considered various aspects and concerns, ultimately reaching the decision to cancel our January concert.
The deep disappointment of yet another meaningful event being lost to the pandemic is real and I am sure we are all experiencing it. I know that I am.
With that said, I recognize that with the lifting of the pressure of a performance in two weeks, we have the opportunity, hand in hand with our music-making, to celebrate and strengthen the bonds of our sisterhood. We can take some time in rehearsal tonight and in future rehearsals to actively build community – spread joy, get to know one another better, and hopefully share some belly laughs (very good for our breathing!). Rachel Spencer has generously and graciously offered to lead us in this endeavor starting with an activity at the beginning of rehearsal tonight. I don’t know the specifics, but am already looking forward to whatever fun/frivolity/silliness/intrigue/dance party Rachel has planned for us.
We will continue to work on the pieces we already have in our folders and will also add repertoire for the spring semester that complements our current theme, keeping us musically engaged as we prepare for our May 1st concert. Through the Storm is hopefully where we will be by May – even as right now we have an omicron thundercloud over our heads. The experts predict, however, there is better weather in the days to come.
Since you won’t see our concert program right away, I did want to share with you my ad. I know that every member makes unique and valued contributions to the vitality of WVC – and I deeply appreciate you all. Together, we can keep WVC ‘steady through the storm.’
Hugs,
Laura
