Hello Everyone,

I enjoyed seeing you all Monday night. It was nice to have a visit from Ginger Wyrick (UNCC) who hosted our collaborative concert and hear her kind words. I have received several emails from folks who tuned into our concert and happily pass along their compliments as they thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful evening of shared music.

I’ll try to post the rehearsal link soon…it has to be pieced together from when I zoomed out.

During our rehearsal, we focused on:

Snow Angel 1. Prologue and 2. Creatures of Light review – recordings are due 12/14/20. If you record on an iPhone 12, go into your settings and turn OFF HDR. Check my email from 2 weeks ago if you have any questions about project notes (dress, recording notes, etc. )

Thanks to Laura Delauney who led a wonderful segment regarding our singing vowels. Check our website for Laura’s resources. I want to be the woman with the green glasses in the video. I have the glasses – all I need now are some sequins.

Watching our virtual choirs gives good insight as to how we are doing. Different face shapes make us each look different when we sing, but vowels should be more alike than different. I know I have learned a lot about my own voice since videoing myself several times a week. I always have room to improve but can see progress in the videos I have made since March. So I celebrate where we are and look to what can be accomplished ahead. Even if you are not recording for virtual choirs, I encourage you to video yourself so that you can see how you are doing and the progress you can make.

Thanks to Ayumi Nakamae who led an awesome session on the Basque pronunciation for Izar ederrak. Her very helpful resources will also be on our website. Now, we just need some of that Basque cheesecake! Thanks for you extra efforts with those pronunciation PowerPoints with you singing the text – beautiful!

We spent a short time in sectionals reviewing Snow Angel movements 1 and 2 and also sang through 5.

Our Angel Gallery project sharing led by Kay was AH-mazing. So many VERY cool offerings from so many WVCers. I was inspired by the wide variety of angel offerings and the off-the-charts creativity. Yay us!

Looking Ahead to 12/14

Continue to polish musical aspects of Snow Angel, movement 5.

Sectionals:
Izar ederrak – mm. 1-16
The Angel – mm. 1-18

As Jasmine is available we will learn a new Russian phrase and also the pitches and rhythms for this section.

Our Angel Gallery work will continue in the latter part of rehearsal, as needed.

Cheers!
Laura
