I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend. Below are some important announcements for this week:
Soprano Sectional: There will be a sectional for all sopranos in our regular rehearsal space tomorrow night beginning at 6:45PM. If you have specific questions, please be prepared to bring them to Laura’s attention.
Rehearsal Recording: Marley’s Mom, Kelly, will be coming to rehearsal tomorrow night to make a short video recording of our rehearsal for a CBS National News story about Marley. We need to be respectful of everyone’s right to privacy. Therefore, if you do not want to be included in the footage, you are welcome to move to an area out of frame while filming is occurring. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and congratulations to Marley!
Pecan Sales: The next chance to order is by December 2nd for delivery on December 9th. We thank you for your support. Proceeds from the Pecan Sales will replenish funds designated for future Tours.
Concert Tickets: You will receive tickets (qty 5) from your Membership Liaison at rehearsal. Ticket prices: Adult: $20, Student: $10, Group: $15 (Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more.) Mark the type of ticket sold on both the ticket and stub. Do not tear the stub. Give the whole ticket to the purchaser. Payments: 1)Make checks out to ‘Women’s Voices Chorus’, or 2) If you would like to pay for presale tickets online, you can do so at our square store (preferred) or by paying with Venmo (@WomensVoicesChorus) or PayPal (treasurer@womensvoiceschorus.org): Have ticket purchasers pay you directly and pay the total from your account. Add a note to the online payment that it is for presale tickets and include your name. Note that payment was made online on the ticket envelope. Please mark your envelope with the number of tickets sold and amounts in the spaces provided. You may return money and/or unsold tickets in your ticket envelope to Allison or your Membership Liaison at any rehearsal. You will receive one comp ticket for every 5 tickets sold. Additional tickets will be available at each rehearsal. All unsold tickets and money are due on Monday, January 13 (note: this is a week earlier than usual).
Program Ads: Please consider approaching vendors you know well and asking them to support the arts in this way; it allows them to get their message to our loyal audience and brings our name into the community. It also helps us spread the financial support of the chorus beyond our members and families/friends, something most members say they would like us to do. Most importantly, with ads we can continue producing a hard-copy program, which is a valuable addition to our audience’s enjoyment of our concerts. This cannot happen if you do not ask. Prices and procedures have not changed from last year; the forms are available on the WVC website “Store” page, here.
Opera Outing: The Diversity Committee would like to sponsor an outing to see The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson at the North Carolina Opera in Raleigh the weekend of Dec 13-15. From the web announcement: “North Carolina-born trailblazer Mary Cardwell Dawson founded the National Negro Opera Company in the mid-20th century, creating unprecedented opportunities for Black artists and audiences across America.” Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Denyse Graves stars, along with Díana Thompson Brewer, whom some of us know from her time at UNCG. If you’re interested, contact Rachel Bowman-Abdi so we can pick a date and get tickets.
Shout-out: I would like to recognize Mia Prior (S2) for all of her work with Public Relations to promote our concert in January. Mia has secured the radio spots with WUNC and WCPE for both the winter and spring concerts and has submitted the graphics and concert date to the Triangle Sings calendar. Thank you, Mia, for all that you do to support WVC!
Zoom: If you need to attend rehearsal via Zoom, please remember to let Laura, your section leader and membership liaison know. You can join the Zoom Rehearsals here. Meeting ID: 858 3293 4624; Password: 121074.
See you tomorrow night
Janet
