Hello Everyone,
Lovely to see and hear you last night at rehearsal! I enjoyed our rehearsal immensely.
PSA – if you have not already had yours, it’s a great time to consider getting your flu vaccine. I had both my flu and shingles vaccine a few weeks ago and was very glad to have the opportunity to do so. I hope that we can all be COVID, flu, and everything else contagious FREE this year.
Rehearsal Focus:
Richer for Her mm. 57-end
– make note of the unisons across the parts for tuning, especially at phrase entrances
– breathe on the rests
– final consonants on the rests (helps to write them in your score)
– mm. 69-72 and mm. 73-76 add a gentle crescendo-decrescendo
– many words have a minimized R: worth, world, richer, for, her
She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear mm. 57-end
– note whether your rhythm is syncopated, especially when the note happens a sixteenth ahead of the beat. These rhythms will need to be tight!
– P1 – the missing text in m. 72 is ‘gamba’
– note that the repeated parts CHANGE and it is probably helpful to star that in your score
Unsung Saint mm. 57-78
– LONG phrases – breathe as an ensemble on the rests, otherwise stagger breathing. It will be helpful for you to mark in your score where you habitually breathe in case we need to fill in gaps and make adjustments.
– m. 58 ‘delicate’ 3rd syllable we will sing a schwa with a bit of the [I] vowel – as in ‘sit’
– breath marks in mm. 73, 75, 78 are a quarter rest in length
– m. 78 the breath mark will be treated as a caesura. We will take enough time there for a breath and to pause before starting the next phrase
O Sister mm. 32-53
– solo sections pitches and rhythms
Looking Ahead to 10/25/21
We will have our All Hands Meeting at the beginning of rehearsal – after that, we will move directly to singing, covering the following:
Rise Up mm. 87-end
– ending consonants on the rests (note these in your score, please)
– ensemble breath on the rests
– note all of the accents!
Nothing Short of Grace mm. 35-50
– review of pitches and rhythms for this section
Storm Comin’ mm. 43-end
– pitches and rhythms
Sing My Child mm. 75-end
– note that this section has the same pitches and rhythms as mm. 39-53, but at mm. 90 the musical phrase is extended as it moves to the ending of the piece.
– mm. 90-end pitches and rhythms
See you on Monday!
Hugs,
Laura
