Hello Everyone,

It was wonderful to see you at rehearsal! Wish I could have heard you sing, too! It was lovely to hear some of the favorite and legendary stories of WVC’s early days that have been passed down over the years. We had our technical challenges but when you consider that no one had to have their forehead stitched up with green thread, I say, “Yay us!”.

Here is a link to the 9/14 rehearsal. It has all the information you need, including links to items stored in a drive folder that you can download as well as links to rehearsal videos (and other items) uploaded to YouTube. Part assignments for A Path to Each Other are in the rehearsal notes (but if there is any confusion, just pick a part!) This link for our Zoom rehearsal video is here, too, in case you missed or you would like to review. We did not accomplish portions of our rehearsal that we will cover in the coming weeks but feel free to access them now.

WVC Rehearsal Notes and Links

I hope that you will be aware of your onsets this week while speaking and singing. Our go-to is a balanced onset with glottal and aspirate onsets “saved for special occasions!” Kathleen will be our visiting guest artist 9/21/20 – looking forward to it!

Thanks for your patience when we were unable to access the breakout rooms. Several of us  had accomplished a successful mock rehearsal with breakout rooms before tonight’s rehearsal so it was disappointing to feel prepared and then not be able to accomplish the plan. I found the trouble after rehearsal – Remote Support preference – not even sure how that got changed-but I wouldn’t have been able to  fix it without closing the meeting. Breakout rooms are restored now and I also know where to look to double check before I start our next zoom rehearsal. The virtual world continues to be a wonderland of discovery.

Thanks for submitting your Path to Each Other videos – draft videos are due 9/21/20 if you would like to participate. All are welcome (it’s optional!)

Virtual Cheers!
Laura

Looking Ahead to 9/21/20
1st half of rehearsal:
Sectional Rehearsals (breakout rooms):

  • Angels of Mercy – Irving Berlin, arr. Milton James
  • Snow Angel 1. Prologue 2. Creatures of Light

Read through together as time allows:

  • Snow Angel 3. God Will Give Orders and 4. Sweet Child – Sarah Quartel

Rise and Stand from the Justice Choir Songbook – Arianne Abela – Drive link (UPDATED SCORE)
We will read through this piece together at rehearsal and I will share the score on screen but here is the link if you want to print it. This piece is outside of our angel theme and is for a virtual collaboration with the women’s choruses of Meredith College led by Shannon Gravelle and UNC-Charlotte led by Ginger Wyrick. More exciting information will be shared soon!

As time allows, we will read through the fifth movement of Snow Angel.

2nd half of rehearsal:
We will have our first guest artist visit – Master Director Kathleen Hansen. She has wonderful information to share, including her virtual chorus work. I asked her to share one of her virtual choirs that I think is particularly beautiful – you won’t want to miss it! The two handouts she asked me to share with you ahead of time are linked in my rehearsal notes (above).

Looking Ahead to 9/28//20

Our plan is to launch our Angel Project designed by Kay Johnson. She has graciously agreed to postpone launching her project if we need more sectional time since last night’s sectional didn’t happen so we will play this by ear. Also planned is a discussion in small groups (breakout rooms!) regarding the Snow Angel text and its meaning (thanks, Deb for encouraging us to practice strategies that lead to expressive musicianship)
