Songs of conflict, compassion, and connection
Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 3:00 p.m.
University United Methodist Church, 150 E. Franklin St., Chapel Hill

Women’s Voices Chorus is pleased and excited to invite you to our winter concert, our first with new Artistic Director Laura Sam! Joined by Carrboro High School’s Women’s Ensemble on select pieces, we will sing songs about loss, keeping faith in hard times, and opening our hearts to each other. The concert takes its title from Gwen Hall’s “I Sing That My Voice May Be Heard,” commissioned by Sam for the North Carolina Governor’s School East Chorus. Hall’s piece was inspired by the life, passion, and courage of Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Laureate and activist for the education of women and girls. Other works will include an arrangement of Jane Siberry’s mournful “The Valley” and settings of Wendell Berry’s consoling “The Peace of Wild Things,” and Rabindranath Tagore’s joyful “Faith is the bird that feels the light.”

Free childcare will be available at the concert venue from 2:30-4:30 p.m. for the children of anyone attending or performing in the concert. Please preregister here by Friday, January 10, 2020 with your child(ren)’s name(s) and age(s). This service will be provided by paid University UMC childcare staff. See an usher or someone at the ticket tables for directions to the childcare room.
