Hello Everyone!
Thank you for a lovely rehearsal!
I stated my goals for our tour rehearsals:
1) Thoroughly rehearse our repertoire so that we can sing together with confidence (and without stress) when we are in Ireland. Our tour rehearsals will help us to not only learn our new music, but also help us to be able to best blend and balance our voices, achieving the most musical and lovely sound possible, as we come together as a new and unique ensemble.
2) Include activities that help us to get to know one another better.
3) And through these activities, learn more about Ireland (or share what we already know). Monday, we divided into teams and played Irish Trivia while enjoying cupcakes decorated with a Shamrock – Ireland’s national flower, or Montbretia – also called Crocosmia or Falling Stars. I have learned that although we will probably see this plant with pretty orange flowers along the roadways, it is nonnative and invasive…BOOOOO!) https://www.seasidesquirrel.ie/blogs/news/we-need-to-talk-about-montbretia
Katie, I am sorry we lost our Zoom connection part way through the rehearsal – we were unexpectedly in the sanctuary and the WIFI in there is not the best (obviously). Hopefully, all will be well in our regular rehearsal space for our next rehearsal.
One housekeeping item – Kay suggested that we alphabetize our music and I thought that was a great idea in facilitating faster transitions between pieces. If you were not at rehearsal, please put yours in alpha order.
Please memorize these two by the tour: You’ve Got a Friend in Me and Stand By Me.
We learned pitches and rhythms for our new pieces:
Let Us Break Bread Together
My Shepherd Will Supply My Need
Down By the Salley Gardens (Chamber Choir members know this one quite well but it was new for some!)
We reviewed pieces from our 2024 winter concert:
How Can I Keep From Singing?
You’ve Got a Friend In Me
We reviewed pieces from our 2024 spring concert:
Stand By Me
A Stór, A Stór, A Ghrá (we are working up to 132 beats per minute with confident Irish!)
Looking Ahead to 5/20/24
A Stór, A Stór, A Ghrá
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
Down By the Salley Gardens
Let Us Break Bread Together
My Shepherd Will Supply My Need
Mo Ghile Mear
Now Let Me Fly
Will the Circle Be Unbroken
Stand By Me
You’ve Got a Friend in Me
See you Monday for some more Ireland Tour fun!
Laura
