Here are the key take-aways from this week’s meeting of the search committee.

  • Search update. The search committee is thrilled to report that we have invited three superb candidates to come lead the chorus in our planned audition rehearsals on May 20 and June 3. Our decision came after six days in which we conducted six interviews, each one approximately 50 minutes long. Interviews consisted of standardized questions asked of all candidates, specific questions for each candidate drawn from our examination of their application materials, and time for each candidate to ask questions of the committee.Ultimately the committee was unanimous in its desire to invite the three candidates who wowed us, not only with their on-paper credentials and their glowing references, but also with the thoughtful manner in which they responded to our questions and posed their own. It was reassuringly clear that each of these individuals had researched our group thoroughly: Each one seemed purposefully drawn to Women’s Voices Chorus in particular. Happily, upon receiving our invitation, each candidate quickly responded with an enthusiastic “YES!”
  • Audition rehearsals. Two candidates will audition with the chorus on Monday, May 20, and one will audition on Monday, June 3. On both nights we will meet in our regular rehearsal space at Holy Trinity. In the coming week, the committee will share with chorus members the detailed structure of each evening. NOTE: Originally, we asked chorus members about their availability beginning at 7:00 p.m. We now feel strongly that in order to accommodate two auditions gracefully on May 20th, the first candidate’s audition must begin promptly at 6:45. Therefore, we ask chorus members to plan to arrive on Monday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. Reminders will be sent, but please mark your calendar now.On Monday, June 3, chorus members may arrive at 6:45 for a prompt 7:00 p.m. start.

On the day before each audition rehearsal, the committee will share information about our invited conductor(s), including the cover letter and resume that accompanied their application!

NEXT STEPS:

  • Confirm audition times and expectations with candidates.
  • Finalize method for recording auditions.
  • Create emailable form to allow absent chorus members who view the recordings to submit feedback if they wish. This form will be identical to forms used by singers at the actual auditions and must be submitted within 48 hours of the audition.
  • Continue to shape process for making our final recommendation to the Board.
