Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all of your hard work at rehearsal last night – so much accomplished!
We spent most of the evening on Sing, Wearing the Sky and I think that we made great progress. If you have time to review your own part this week, that would be super helpful – especially if you can sing along with the YouTube recording so that you are getting used to the percussion and violin parts. Deb helped Amy and me with the rhythm question in the soprano part m. 11 (thanks, Deb!) and we will make that correction next week.
I don’t think that we have the musical journey of Tabula Rasa realized yet – it lacks an overall cohesiveness and arc – but I think that is mainly due to our working the piece in sections and not singing it through enough…so we will do that next week. I absolutely love everything about mm. 42-58. This section calls for us to build, build, build through the page turn. The top three voices have the textual intensity (and high notes!) and the lower three voices have the supporting full harmonies and augmented theme – glorious. It is very close, I think, to coming together. It would be very helpful if you would practice your part with the rehearsal files so that you know exactly what your part is doing if you have any lingering questions. I know it makes a big difference to sing this piece with the other parts – there are a lot of close harmonies.
We didn’t get to A Bell Awakened so that is still a piece we need to work through to make sure we take care of all of the questions.
Looking Ahead to 4/10/23
-A Bell Awakened – we will work through this piece in part circles and make sure everyone knows their part.
– Tabula Rasa – We will sing it through, working on phrasing and musical arc, and of course, answer any remaining questions.
– it is my plan to sing all of our repertoire – if we need to we can skip a few on which we have a high level of confidence, but hopefully we will get to them all.
I am looking forward to seeing you next week!
Cheers!
Laura
