Dear Singers,

Welcome to the first rehearsal of our Spring Season! I am so excited to dig into our new repertoire. Now that our Winter concert is over and we are starting anew, it is a good time to reflect on your feelings about last season. I have attached the WVC self-assessment for your review to read over and identify areas you have excelled in and others that can use some improvement. I challenge you to pat yourself on the back for all the areas in which you have improved last season and to choose one area to work on this season that would make your experience as a singer in WVC even more rewarding.

New Music for Spring – please be sure to come a little bit earlier tomorrow night to leave time to pick up your music from Marsha Ferguson, our WVC librarian.

Name Tags – if you need a new lanyard, holder, or name tag, please let Wendy Hua (wendy.jw.hua@gmail.com), our Membership Chair, know so she can provide you with a replacement.

Rehearsal – Tomorrow night we invite guests to our rehearsal to see what Women’s Voices Chorus is all about and give us a try before deciding if they would like to audition on Thursday, February 8th. So far, we have 16 people signed up for auditions so expect a good number of guests.  Due to the number of expected guests and the limited copies of music, we will be asking our guests to share with a current singer.  Thank you in advance for welcoming our guests.

Practice Files – all of the practice files are up on our website already and are ready for you to dig in and start exploring our music for the Spring season.  Thank you Laura and Karla for making that happen.

Diversity Moment – This week, the Diversity Committee spotlights an article by Black classical musician Kira Thurman. Thurman sorts through the difficult baggage carried by Black musicians who love and perform classical western music but also describes music’s “shocking powers of aesthetic pleasure.” It’s a great article. This and other resources are available on the DEI Resources page of our website (you need to be logged in to see it).

Shout outs! – This week’s Shout Out is for Kinley Russell – our fearless Logistics Chair.  This was Kinley’s first concert as Logistics Chair and she was incredible!  There are tons of details that need to be handled within a short time frame.  Due to her amazing organizational skills and much planning, our concert went off without a hitch.  Thank you, Kinley.
