Hello Everyone,
What fun singing through all of our spring repertoire this evening! So much wonderful material and growth opportunities are in front of us – I’m excited! Thanks, Deb, for helping us with all of our parts tonight – much appreciated!
Thank you so very much for the grape hyacinths (love them and will plant them in my garden this spring after I enjoy them indoors) and for the lovely card and MOST of all for your beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday. I guarantee, that is the prettiest version of Happy Birthday I will hear this week! Warmed my heart and made me feel celebrated so thank you very much.
Thanks to everyone who served as a Buddy to our guest singers this evening. Audition information is on our website if you know of anyone interested in joining WVC.
After auditions on Thursday evening, I will look at shifting voices around so that our parts 4, 5, and 6 have ample coverage. If I ever ask you to sing a part that is absolutely not working for you, please let me know. I want us to have a balanced chorus but also want everyone to feel physically comfortable in their sections, too. That will probably take me a few days to sort out but I will send an additional email when I have that information ready to share with you.
During rehearsals this spring, I am going to have us circle sing in part circles and also in mixed circles. If that close proximity of people all singing inward is not appropriate for you (GO AWAY CORONAVIRUS!), please know that it continues to be fine for you to sit/stand at a distance. You will still be able to hear your part and contribute your voice to the ensemble. Everyone needs to do what is best for themselves and I know that that changes from week to week based on personal circumstances. I also deeply appreciate how respectful everyone has been of each other in this regard since we have been back together singing in person.
Another rehearsal aspect I would like to try this spring is to sing all (or most!) of our rep each week. Once we get past this next week when we will work on half of our rep, the next week we will review what we have already worked on the previous week and then work on the other half of the rep, adding measures each week while we also continue to review.
I am already looking forward to our retreat on March 4th – I hope you have your calendars marked! Dr. Jamie Rhodes will be back with us for Part 2 – putting into practice all that she taught us last fall. That should be fun and super helpful.
Karla has done a magnificent job (TONS of work) getting all of the practice files on our website. THANK YOU! She has discovered a few bugs in Sibelius so let us know if you try to use a practice file that is not working properly and we will troubleshoot the issue.
