Hello Everyone,
Hope you had a lovely time at rehearsal last night – I certainly did! Our laughter and music eased the disappointment of our concert postponement – it was wonderful to share the evening making music together.
Although I know it was a challenge to make conga lines on Zoom, Rock-Paper-Scissors was a ton of fun. Thank you for leading that, Rachel! And thank you for bringing the sweets, as well! If you want to help Rachel plan community building activities for future rehearsals (or provide a snack outside), please be in touch with her. I’m already looking forward to next time.
Please help to spread the word that we have auditions on 1/24/22 by appointment, either in-person or via Zoom. If you think you know someone who would be interested, please direct them to our website. https://womensvoiceschorus.org/sing-2022/
Did you hear we might have snow on the way for this weekend? Right now it doesn’t look as though it will impact our Monday evening rehearsal, but stay tuned for any change of plans.
At rehearsal, I mentioned hearing a strong overtone coming from Diane K’s direction (delightful!). If you want to learn more, I highly recommend Dr. Roger Hale’s video on singing in tune. When we sing in tune, we are rewarded with a sparkly, vibrant sound, in which sound waves in the chords ‘lock together,’ bringing out overtones.

Anna-Maria Hefele is an amazing overtone singer. Here she is demonstrating:

When we begin our rehearsals for spring semester, we will shift to this rehearsal format (times approximate):
7:30-7:40 Announcements and community building
7:40-8:30 Singing!
8:30-8:45 Break (we need to clear the room for an air exchange so plan to go outside, weather permitting, and visit with your sisters. It will feel great to take our masks off and see each other’s faces. Depending on if someone wants to bring a treat to share, there might be food!)
8:45-9:05 More singing!
9:05-9:30 Sectionals (we will rotate through the voice parts)
I truly appreciate each and every one of you and the contributions you make to WVC. Yay us!
Scissors,
Laura
