Hello Everyone,
Thanks for a fun and very productive rehearsal last night – so many wonderful aspects of our singing to celebrate and significant progress made regarding our challenges.
I Love You/What a Wonderful World
– The ensemble is much improved at m. 78, we were much more together there to the end. Everyone please continue watching, especially the singers with the moving 8th notes! We may take the whole piece a few ticks faster – depending on what works best for Kinley’s solo (nice job!) at the beginning. I think we might have been a bit too slow (sorry – that’s on me!).
– Mind the triplet at m. 41 – we should be right with Deb there.
Sing, Wearing the Sky
– All much improved.
– Let’s observe the mp at mm. 28 and 77 – those two places were too loud.
– mm. 93-94 it would be wonderful to have more mezzo and alto, but the balance did improve.
– I will keep working on m. 11 so that I conduct more accurately there. That’s a tough spot for me!
I Am
– Wish I had made a recording when we first started working on this piece so that everyone could hear the wonderful progress that we have made – great work!
– I think our remaining hurdle is to try to keep the accuracy we have gained but with a faster tempo. As you have time, please listen to the Aurora Chorus performance – it is at the desired tempo. I have attached the recording that I made of us last night so that you can compare.
Aurora Chorus Performance (this is our goal tempo!)
Honour the Earth
– Coming together beautifully – great job, everyone!
– Love hearing the overtone singing, the rainstick, bird calls, whirlies, and the clapsticks. Now we just need to add the drum and the didgeridoo.
– I really enjoy Ann’s reading at the beginning – it will be a wonderful way to begin our concert.
Looking Ahead to 1/13/25
We will sing through our entire concert (including Chamber Choir), take a short break, and then work on any remaining details in the time that we have left. I am very much looking forward to putting everything all together. It would be really helpful if everyone could review this week because it has been about a month since we have sung some of our rep (since December 16th!). We won’t have time to repeat very much so we need to have it as polished as possible on our first attempt.
I do think that we are in excellent shape with our music and I am so looking forward to sharing it with our families and friends.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week – stay warm!
Best,
Laura
