Product Description

Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria is usually sung by mixed choirs, but did you know that its original performers were the residents of the Venetian Ospedale della Pietà, an all-female orphanage? In this two-part film, the members and director of Women’s Voices Chorus reflect on the experience of singing the Gloria in January 2013 after visiting Vivaldi’s original venue the previous summer. The introductory documentary illuminates the 300-year history of one of Vivaldi’s most beloved works; it is followed by a complete recording of the chorus’s historically informed concert, accompanied by baroque orchestra.
