Soprano I, Part 1

I am happy to be singing again after a long hiatus! Hopefully those high notes will return with practice – or I’ll be singing 2nd soprano next year.

I am originally from Allentown, PA and got hooked on singing when I unexpectedly landed the lead in “Mary Poppins” in 6th grade. After that, I sang in every group at school. For college, I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – a science/engineering school that didn’t have music majors (or many women!), so I got to be a big fish in a small pond for four years! After college, I sang with a classical chorus and a Sweet Adelines chorus in western Massachusetts.

I have lived in Durham since 1998. My husband and I originally came here for jobs in RTP, but we are now self-employed doing software development and website design/programming. Our company’s website is www.alverity.com. We have three sons, ages 10, 8 and 2. When I’m not working, doing laundry or ferrying big sons to school and baseball activities, I enjoy playing with my toddler, puttering in the yard, playing the piano and cooking.
